Summertime Blues – July 2010

Hello again,

Why “summertime blues”? We have a lot of blue skies for the moment, and temperatures have started escalating into the low 30′s (low 90′s for you Fahrenheit fans). It has been some time since we wrote anything here, and that’s a mistake! Since the last post, we have added a few new websites, and here’s the list in no particular order:

  • GEOCOGEN at geocogen.net is a technical site for a project that I have taken on since the beginning of May. The project is a major project to provide 1’000 MegaWatts (or more) of electricity to the owner (a major power company, a municipal power authority, a regional or national government). The system that produces this base-load power is clean, sustainable, reliable, long-lived, and inexpensive. We started the website back in January, but kept it private until the company was formed in May.
  • Internet Office Connections http://internetofficeconnections.com is a domain that we took over from our partner Sue Fleckenstein. She decided she wanted to go in a somewhat different direction, so we took over the domain and put an existing php website on it, which is consistent with the previous content.
  • Webhosting By Jimmy Craig http://webhostingbyjimmycraig.com is similar to IOC in concept, but it was published primarily as a reference point for Webmaster Resources and Information. If we get to the point where we have enough business, we can install domain name and web hosting reselling activities on this same site.
  • Who Is Jimmy Craig was set up to have some place to send people to learn a little more about me in a controlled environment. The header picture of the Alps around the Sankt Gotthard Pass was taken from the living room window in my apartment in Oberägeri.
  • Finally, there is a brand new website STARWIND (http://starwind.eu) that belongs to the same group as GEOCOGEN. The STARWIND AG is a designer, fabricator, erector, and operator of high-tech wind turbines for power generation.
  • I think that’s all of the new sites without any of the old sites mixed in by mistake.

Other news in the website area is that we will be discontinuing some sites as their domains come up for renewal. These are primarily the mophie-iphone series, the R- and X-rated sites that I never managed to get off the ground, and the Nessebar Beach Apartment sites. That looks like quite a few, but only the three mophie-iphone sites were active.

More news in the website area is the new look of this website. The header picture is the entrance to an auditorium of a symphony hall somewhere, but I’ve forgotten where! That’s almost unforgiveable! But anyway, I think it looks nice!

There will be a new page in the website soon (maybe together with the release of this page) that will show all the Jimmy Craig Websites in a directory (alphabetically sorted).

The final news is that we have moved. All of our operations now will be done in our new space in the village of Hagendorn, near Cham (still in Canton Zug). You can check the contact page for the exact info if you need it.

So. Well, that turned out to be a fair amount of news – more than I thought when I started.

Thanks for looking in and reading this far!

A New Blog

Hi there!

We have a new WordPress blog online (for a few weeks now). It’s called Mophie Blog, and if you don’t know what a “mophie” is, take a look at this post: What Is A Mophie And Why Do I Want One?

It’s been put up in WordPress 2.8.4 – the newest release, and the theme is a single-column job which makes it look a little different from many fancier themes.

If if looks a little unusual, that’s also because it’s designed to bring in income, according to a methodology used by (and taught by) Ben Shaffer. Please contact me (jimmy@craigspage.info) if you might be interested in learning this, because he doesn’t give his (live) eight-week course on a continuous schedule.

Ciao for now!

Talk About Busy!

Hi there!

The gang down at Green Home MegaStore and Sue and Craig Websites has been really busy the past few weeks! As you read in “New Websites“, they put up five new online stores at the beginning of the month. Now they’ve gone and done themselves one better – they just finished putting twelve (yes, that’s 12) websites online this past weekend.

Here’s the list:

Technically, these are all the same type of site – a dynamic php design with rotating home pages. From the reader’s point of view, they are all informational or content sites, and they all fall in the general “health” category. They were put up at this time (and there are a few more to follow) to complement “I Don’t Want To Get OLD!“, which has now been published.

You are invited to come by and take a look at all these sites – they represent a lot of hard work!

Ciao for now!

New Websites

Hello again!

It’s been some time since I wrote last, but we’ve been busy – primarily with the jv based on Green Home MegaStore dot com. We have put up a number of new sites – mostly WP blogs – and have updated some of them to the newest version, WP 2.8.1. But we’ve had some compatibility problems with the 2.8 and 2.8.1 versions – actually, with the plugins that are not keeping up with WP’s progress for the most part. We are finding 2.8 is easier to use than 2.7 and lower, but 2.8.1 has some stability problems in terms of the view when we are composing posts and pages – it fluctuates on the page and you don’t always see the area where the cursor is.

Green Home MegaStore and our newest, I Don’t Want To Get Old, were off-line for about two days before we found the “villian” – a plugin that doesn’t work on 2.8 and above (at least not yet). They are back now, but it’s still a little rocky – sometimes we have problems getting the sites to come up on a browser. We’re looking at what we can do and what we have to leave out to make the sites fully functional.

Also, on Green Home MegaStore, we have installed five (yes – 5) online stores of various types. Some are completely for electronic products (that you can download), while others are for “hard goods”. Two of them are international – Canada and the UK – and more of these are on the way.

Other sites that are new are:

Practical Greenology
Go Green – Save Green
Aromatherapy
Zumba!

There are a few more in the wings, but the operating sites tend to take priority – particularly when they’re not functioning properly!

Ciao for now!

A Cute Little Website for a Client

Hi there,

We just finished putting up a cute little blog for our client “La Porta di Todi” -  a new bed & breakfast in Todi, a town close to where we are in Italy. It’s based on a WordPress blog, but we needed to find a free hosting arrangement, and ended up with WordPressMU (for Multi-User), which makes a simple blog easier because there are fewer alternatives, but makes it more difficult for the blogger used to being able to use all the widgets and themes available.

We searched free hosting WP blog offers for almost half a day before we found this theme, since each WP-MU offer is selected by it’s “owner”, including the number and variety of themes and plugins. We played a few tricks and have the beginnings of a nice tri-lingual blog (Italian, French and English). It still needs content and some translations, but you can take a look at http://bandb-todi.com

I guess that’s all for now. See y’all later!

Bye

Jimmy Craig
